Sorry This Isn’t Coming To You From A Magazine Tucked Next To SkyMall

Welcome

You’re seven miles over Muncie. You already devoured the tapas box, mini bottle of red, and somehow already watched every episode of Tiger King on the seatback TV.

A-ha. Inflight magazine. Print. Throwback. Whatever. Go for it.

You peruse the usual fare of Fogo de Chao ads and the same two-page spread for the “Top 10 Dermatologists in Phoenix” that has been on pages 106 and 107 – no matter the issue – since 1997. But what’s this on page 108?

Debonair Boston Travel Writer Serves You 48 Hours in Boston – And The Freedom Trail Is Only 1.5 Hours Of It!

That would have been ideal – and not just because of the cocktail of Joe Exotic, meh Merlot, and airline Mediterranean samplers. Under normal circumstances, I would have spent the last few months hawking the latest edition of my Boston travel guide (out Tuesday! Order today!) to in-flight magazines, local radio, and anyone who had the slightest urge for a lobster roll, Mark Wahlberg puns, and the Freedom Trail.

Then came Miss Rona, er, coronavirus.

Planes are grounded, boats are docked, and the only long-haul travel I’m doing involves 10-block sunrise strolls on behalf of my dog’s need for a morning constitutional. But the show must go on! We can still enjoy all that Boston and other cities and lesser-known nooks around the world have to offer. It’s just going to take longer to get back out there and collecting passport stamps.

In the meantime, for those of you who are able, still get that travel guide. Take this time to plan the perfect vacation that can be waiting for you on the other side. And not just Boston! Many of my fellow Moon writers have the luck of releasing at a time when it might not seem like the best time to peddle travel guides. Give some love and buy or pre-order the likes of Colorado Camping! Moon Maine! Moon Alaska! Moon Vancouver! And Moon Nashville!

They’re all written by fantastic travel writers around the world, and they’ll be a great addition to at-home happy hour and trip planning.

We’re all kind of doing our own thing with respect to promoting our books in these unusual times. For me, I’m launching Dinners & Deadlines (more on that in a not-so-distant future post). I’ll be here to breathe some added life to the book through the warm, inviting world of the Internet. Please don’t cyberbully me. Like I implied earlier – I won’t rely too much on the Freedom Trail in my travel tips.
